First of all, a happy New Year to all members and friends of the Society. The past 12 months have been an exceptionally busy year for us and for the hospitality business in general, and I would like to thank all members for their help and assistance in making 2011 one of the most productive and successful years ever for the Society.
We remember of course the particularly busy month of August, when we were privileged enough to host the 2011 Asia congress in Hong Kong and Macau — a most successful event thanks to the effort and commitment of committee members and our close friends. During three days of meetings, workshops and site inspections, international and Asia members discovered Hong Kong and Macau and learnt what makes our destination so fabulous.
In particular, the exposure our friends in Macau received went a long way to helping them become an independent chapter hopefully at a point in the very near in future.
Closer to home, the Society map has proven to be the worthwhile exercise we all predicted and I can report that we can almost can meet our revenue targets for 2011. I would like to take this opportunity to thank associate and hotel members for supporting this project through advertising and exposure in their individual hotels and businesses — I am confident that the Society map will continue to be a revenue earner during the months ahead and become an integral part of the Society's activities.
Looking ahead, during 2012 the Society will mark its 30th anniversary with celebrations appropriate to the occasion. Highlight of this landmark event will be a grand dinner in August, so put that in your diaries now — details to follow!
Finally, on behalf of the Committee, I would like to wish all of you great success and good health in 2012.
